Pallet wall art perfect for Valentine's Day!

Since I had pallet boards left over from other projects, I decided to let nothing go to waste and made wall decor for our office.  

First I cut the boards so they would be about the same length.  Then to connect all the boards, I screwed a board lengthwise to the back. 

I wanted the wood to show through so I whitewashed the boards.  To do this, dilute ivory paint with water until you are satisfied with the consistency (I had an extra piece of wood to practice on). Then brush on a few coats to get your desired coverage.

For the lettering I made stencils by printing the letters I needed on cardstock and carefully cutting them out.

Now all I had to do was trace the letters on the boards and fill in with gray and red paint.

Then I brushed on a little more whitewash to distress the lettering a little.

The office is slowly coming together!

Budget Friendly Wall Decor

I have been looking for ideas for a budget friendly option to decorate the empty wall in my dining area since we moved in to our new home.  So when I found these inexpensive frames and mats at Hobby Lobby, I thought of the perfect thing!

Antique Ceiling Tin Wall Decor

I'm always searching for unique wall decor. So when I came across this vintage mint ceiling tin at a local flea mall I knew it would be a perfect addition to our living area. It is a 24"x24" tile and is framed in reclaimed wood.

Decoupage Map Wall Art

I'm making some progress with wall decor in our new place! 

I have had this 30x40 canvas for months trying to decide what to paint on it. So I was excited when I came upon the idea of making a large decoupaged map similar to those found at Restoration Hardware. I got the idea from Becca at From Gardners Two Bergers.  She has great tutorials!

This wall decor cost me virtually nothing because I used supplies I already had. That's my favorite kind of project!

I used THIS old map of Paris, and printed it out on card stock.  To do this I used Photoshop to make a grid over the map and printed it out in sections.  Then I cut off the extra card stock and arranged the map squares on the canvas to layout the placement.  Once I finalized the layout I made pencil markings to reference.  Because the canvas was a little larger than the map, I painted a dark brown border on the canvas. After the paint dried I began decoupaging the map (two coats).  I let the modge podge dry over night and then I sprayed on a clear matte sealer.

I love how it turned out and the colors coordinate well with my color scheme!
